a simple cup of tea
infuses all the beauty of the night
expanding conversations
blossom into mountains of delight
hoping for some magic
but fog arrives and all the skies grow dim
huddled on a grassy hillside
we look to see that stars reside within
taken now completely by surprise
to find a universe of magic in your eyes
hearts join together
awakened to a world uniquely ours
time slows as we fall
faster than a sky of shooting stars
not what we expected
hearts erupt in everlasting bliss
fully present in this moment
enthralled in this absorbing cosmic kiss

then the fog drops below us
and we’re floating on an island in the sky
celestial light show blazing for us

Windmill

on the wind swept dusty plains out in New Mexico
they came to put down roots a hundred years ago
to where the prairie expands and the tumbleweeds roam
they’d make something from nothing and call it home
building a house while they lived in a dugout cave
the livestock and the people needed water every day
divining rods directed them to the place that they should drill
with wood, steel, and resolve they put up a windmill
the wind may try to shut us down
we’ll keep working this dusty hard ground
turn to face it head on as we let the gusts blow
to power the windmill when life says “no”
a hazel eyed girl there auburn hair blowing in the wind
became a kind woman light shining bright within
I asked for her hand because I loved her so
but in the shadow of the windmill her folks said no
undeniable love too strong for us to quit it
we created lives together until they’d finally permit it
demonstrating every day that I would be her man
her family grew to see that’s exactly who I am
the wind may try to shut us down
we’ll keep working this dusty hard ground
turn to face it head on as we let the gusts blow
to power the windmill when life says “no”
I keep a photo on my wall of that windmill in the sunset
so when the struggles come I won’t retreat I won’t forget
I’ll set my feet and turn to face the howling winds of resistance
let them provide the fuel to feed the strength of my persistence
the wind may try to shut us down
we’ll keep working this dusty hard ground
turn to face it head on as we let the gusts blow

sailing out on silky wings
on a quest to fully live

standing on this mountain edge
